PRESS RELEASE: Taproot Kitchen chosen by the Junior Woman’s Club as their 2019-2021 fundraising recipient.
Every two years the Junior Woman’s Club (JWC) of State College chooses a new non-profit organization to become the recipient of the Club’s annual fundraising efforts. The local community always looks forward to the JWC’s signature project each December – The Elves Gift Shop. At this event, families are invited to bring their children to shop for inexpensive holiday gifts for parents, teachers, friends, siblings and pets with the help of local Girl Scout “elves”. Parents can relax and enjoy snacks or browse the vendor tables and sign up for the holiday raffles. Admission is free. This 30-year tradition will raise money for Taproot Kitchen (TK) this year, whose goal is to purchase a food truck to support their growing catering business.
The Junior Woman’s Club’s motto is “Community, Service, Friendship, and Family.” They are a group of women from the State College area who enjoy volunteering, making friends, and giving back to the community.” These goals align with the mission of Taproot Kitchen where “Everyone has a place at the table.” Taproot Kitchen is a culinary venture whose main ingredients are people and produce: a diverse and inclusive community who want to serve rather than be served; and fresh food gleaned from local farms and markets. At Taproot Kitchen individuals gain farm to table culinary skills. Through hands-on experiences in the kitchen, they are able to discover new ways to take root and grow to their fullest potential as contributing members of the community.
Taproot Kitchen and the Junior Woman’s Club are excited to begin building a mutually beneficial relationship over the next two years. With like-minded goals, they expect to reach out to serve the State College community as a productive and exciting new partnership.
